Delivery & Humor

By fusing popular culture with humorous elements, JIFs have changed the dynamics of writing and delivery. With a short clip and little to no context, JIFs make their argument far more effectively than could words. If given the chose, most individuals in todays culture would rather watch the given content than read it. For example, when asked to decide between reading an essay and watching a GIF, most people are going to choose the GIF. Generally, GIFs are more appealing to people because they are entertaining and quickly deliver the message. But more importantly, GIFs make their point far more powerfully than a five-hundred-word essay. The two meme’s below are humorous, while also expressing this transformation into the ‘late age of print.’ Even though they both contain little context, they are still able to effectively get the point across.

JIFs use humorous elements to produce spreadable content. Humor has gained popularity amongst discourse communities; because, come on, who doesn’t enjoy a good laugh. By incorporating humor into popular culture, JIFs are ‘rewriting’ culture by combining a collage of new and old ideas. In a result, composers produce a ‘new,’ recomposed form of creative expression.
