The World Wide Web has transitioned into a new era of digital technology where participatory culture has the power to shape society. Discourse communities have redefined modern literacy and culture as a whole within network platforms, including Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, BuzzFeed, and many more. The traditional fields of culture have found a new framework, where participatory culture produces creative work in new forms. These new forms of digital media are becoming the dominant way of writing allowing ‘the public’ to not only act as consumers but also as producers. Through the use of digitally-networked genres, such as memes and GIFs, more people can use a wider set of tools to express ideas and emotions differently. The traditional fields of culture have found a new framework, where participatory culture produces creative work in new forms.
